SferaOne, a leading Spanish engineering and construction services company specializing in energy generation, savings, and efficiency solutions, has achieved a significant milestone in the energy transition in Azerbaijan with the installation of a floating photovoltaic plant on Lake Boyuksor, Baku. This project, inaugurated on August 13, 2024, represents not only an important step towards the adoption of renewable energy in the region but also a tangible demonstration of SferaOne’s commitment to sustainability and technological innovation.
The plant, with a capacity of 100 kWp, was developed under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model, allowing SferaOne to comprehensively manage all phases of the project, from engineering to final execution. The choice of a floating installation on Lake Boyuksor not only addresses the need to generate clean energy but also tackles critical environmental issues, such as improving water quality and reducing evaporation, thanks to the innovative technology applied.
This project has not only optimized energy performance through the cooling effect of the water, which keeps the solar panels at lower temperatures, but has also highlighted SferaOne’s ability to implement high-value energy solutions in challenging scenarios. The inauguration of the plant was attended by senior officials from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy and representatives from the Asian Development Bank, who emphasized the positive impact of this technology on the region.
Pedro Cuevas, CEO of SferaOne, expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the floating photovoltaic plant on Lake Boyuksor is a significant milestone both for the company and for the energy transition in Azerbaijan. He stressed that this technology enables the efficient utilization of the region’s solar potential, while also demonstrating SferaOne’s ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability. This project is further proof of SferaOne’s leadership in implementing energy solutions that not only benefit the local community but also contribute to environmental preservation.
Since its founding in 2006, SferaOne has been at the forefront of the energy transition, implementing innovative solutions across five continents. This project in Azerbaijan reaffirms its position as a pioneer in the sector, capable of delivering sustainable solutions that promote energy savings and efficiency anywhere in the world.
